Online Learning

Often times in online learning or distance learning, there is a sense of being left out. Online classes at Regent are very engaging as students are encouraged to interact with other students. I have also gained a few friends from online classes. I love the fact that I have learned to keep up with them through different avenues such as fellowship in the faith and facebook. What a thrilling way to keep in touch and grow.

Regent University

Regent University is a place where we can come to learn, experience and grow. A beautiful campus that is topped off with a great staff. Through the indwelling of the holy spirit, Regent University is preparing student to change and impact the world. Founded in sound biblical principles, Regent provides the student with the necessary foothold needed to be used as an instrument in God's plan.

Christian Education

Christian Education interfaces God's word through every aspects of life. We simply cannot have a secular side and sacred side. Through a Christian education, we learn to keep Christ the fore front of all things as we gain knowledge to contribute to God's purpose for our lives. A Christian education will prepare us to share our faith and serve as disciples of Jesus Christ.

First Fruits ... Time to Share!

It is early in the summer season and I am ecstatic about my first fruits. Here are the first picking from my little garden. Tomatoes and peppers, to which you see, the pepper sauce (jar in the background) is already made and waiting for the heat to set in. There are also carrots, onions, green, red and yellow peppers, corn and okra to come!!! Shoot, I even have cucumbers growing in the topsy turvy hanging from the front porch. These are some of the things I remember as a child growing up. Eating tomato sandwiches (it is as it appears, only tomatoes, salt and pepper, bread and mayo)and always having pepper sauce around to put on anything fried or any veggie cooked from the garden. My kids think this is the strangest thing ever and just will not participate in the whole tomato sandwich fest. Then there is the ‘Blue Plate’ mayonnaise that I cannot find here in the great state of Virginia. I have seen it in some of the stores while traveling through North Carolina. Whenever I visit Mississippi, I always purchase 5 or 6 jars to bring back. I also plan to try my hand at canning preserves and jellies this year. Plum is favorite and very plentiful here. Once again, my kids wonder what is wrong with the plum jelly sold in the store. As my son so philosophically places it, “Why do you have to keep re-inventing the wheel?” My nice teen-aged response to this, “WHATEVER”! At any rate, I am proud of my first fruits and have already anxiously shared them . Hmmm… just a question to ponder … do we have the same enthusiasm for our tithes? "Give as freely as you have received!" (Matt 10:8). Sharing Brings JOY!!

Finally Got It!

Here is the bike picture that I promised last month. You have no idea how hard it is to get someone to point and shoot the camera. All want to be in front of it. There is always one or more of the following issue. The person taking the picture takes so long to shoot it until you come out looking like the madhatter or someone has to adjust your camera because they know a better way or want a close up and you look like you just ran out of prison. Finally there is the person with the worse camera aim this side of the Mississippi and you look like you are playing hide and seek in the picture. At any rate, here it is!!

Does She Know?

Wow! 16-1/2 years old and she is beautiful, confident and almost ready to head out into the world take on whatever comes her way. Next week she leaves to go the University of Virginia for a week to prepare for success in the Advanced Placement classes she will be taking next school year. As I peruse the package, there is a list to make sure she is ready and informed. It list standard items like sheets, paper, alarm clocks, cash, water bottle, cell phone and sunscreen, location of classes and dormitories, etc… But as her mom, I have to ask myself- if she is ready for this –“Does She Know?”

Does she know that life is not guaranteed to be easy and although she is a million miles away from me; she is not alone. Well, we talked about how God loves us and we are never alone and how Jesus understands how life can be crazy sometimes. I wonder if she will remember Hebrews 14:14-15 “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet was without sin.” That high priest is Jesus and yes he understand our out of control and alone moments.

Oh, she will come face to face with our young culture out there. She will see how the world begs and thrives for power, personal successes and gains, popularity, financial stresses and money. These are commonplace things and will seem so easy that wrong will look like right. She may be tempted to conform to these things but as she and I explored God’s word together we are reminded about what Paul said in Romans about not conforming to this world but transforming ourselves by the renewing of our minds. But Does She Know that by refusing to complain or argue can make her shine is world? “Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the world of life – in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.” Philippians 2:14-16

Go my child into the world and let your light – the light of Christ SHINE!
Be a beacon.
